The Book

VOICES OF AFGHANISTAN is a collection of various voices, alongside the beautiful imagery of everyday life in Afghanistan. The reader will be taken through the themes of Conflict, Culture and Hope in relation to the lives of Afghan women. Both men and women discuss not only the limitations and violence the women face, but also the astounding strength and resilience that allows them to rebuild their lives and country.

Portions of proceeds will be donated to groups working on the ground with women and children in Afghanistan.

AU is currently seeking volunteers who have experience, expertise and/or enthusiasm in the following areas:

Fundraising/grant writing and research.

●

Program/project research and development.

●

Social Media outreach, marketing, crowd sourcing and website maintenance.

AU and SWC are planning the creation of a sustainable community garden which implements repurposed practical and artistic materials. The garden harvests will provide fresh eggs and produce to the Sure We Can community, including those living financially on the margins of society.

The project’s additional purpose is to foster and strengthen neighborhood relationships, promote food access and food justice in Bushwick and of course to promote the power of creativity to raise awareness and bring people together.

For this specific project we are seeking builders, gardeners and artists with experience and/or expertise in sustainable, environmental urban farming, repurposed construction, and social artists who use repurposed and/or up-cycling of materials.

We are particularly interested in individuals who have arts experience with implementing participatory art based community building projects/programs. With your help and the Valentines Day matching donations by J.M. Kaplan Fund & ioby's Team, we were able to get fully funded today. With this much needed backing, our team of volunteers and partners (SWC & Musgo) will be able to complete this Bushwick community garden and urban farm. The project applies mostly repurposed materials, as well as recycling and up-cycling elements to create the practical and artistic components that will generate a beautiful and plentiful garden and gathering place.
